1. What is a doula?

    • The word "doula" comes from the ancient Greek meaning "a woman who serves" and is now used to refer to a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the birther before, during and just after birth; or who provides emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.  (from DONA.org) Learn more HERE!

  2. Where are the class locations and hours? Cost?

    • The classes are usually held either in my home in Chanhassen or at the AmericInn in Chanhassen. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the workshop begins at 9:00am and will go until 6:00pm. I will provide plenty of breaks, yummy snacks and time for lunch each day.  

    • The cost is $625 for the three days and includes the Childbirth Ed for Doulas PLUS the Birth Doula Workshop. (NOTE: price increases to $650 in August)

  3. Are there any prerequisites?

    • Yes!  Please purchase and read the following before class (cost is not included in your workshop fee):

      • The Birth Partner, 5th Edition by Penny Simkin (bring with you to class) AND

      • Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Newborn: The Complete Guide by Penny Simkin (newest edition please)

  4. Does this workshop count toward my certification?  Are there other steps I need to take to be certified?

    • This workshop includes steps #1 and #2 in the DONA International certification process.  The other requirements can from DONA International can be found HERE.

  5. What is your refund policy?

    • There are no refunds for the birth doula workshop. Participants who cannot attend may credit their payment toward a future birth doula workshop. There will be a $200 fee to make the change if requested within one month of the workshop or once it has begun. The make-up doula training must be attended within one year of the original training, or all fees will be forfeited

  6.  If I can't attend the workshop I registered for, can I attend a different workshop date?

    • Yes!  As long as you attend within one year, you are welcome to transfer your registration to another workshop date.  You can only transfer one time. There will be a $200 fee to make the change.
